Jen Alexander-Smith, LGPC

Jen Alexander-Smith is a licensed graduate professional counselor (LGPC), located in Washington, DC, working under the supervision of Niki Novak, LMFT, LPC.

Using a multicultural and integrative approach, Jen believes in empowering clients to craft their own narratives to gain or increase a sense of autonomy, authorship, and capacity. Jen uses Feminist Therapies to help clients of all backgrounds to see and influence the oppressing factors affecting their well-being. Jen invites clients to participate in the counseling process as equals, particularly through the co-creation of goals for therapy. Jen operates from a trauma-informed, attachment-focused perspective.

Jen earned a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jen has spent the past 15 years working with adolescents and young adults in non-profit and university settings and earned a Master’s Degree in Education and Human Development in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University. Jen graduated with her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in December 2022. Jen continues to work at GW in Student Affairs and resides in DC with her wife.
